US OLYMPIAN MATTY REED SIGNS WITH BARRACUDA GOGGLES
Portland, Oregon - US Olympic Triathlete Matty Reed has signed a new deal to race and train with Barracuda swim goggles. One of the world's elite triathletes, Reed now uses Barracuda's new Hydrobat goggles.
"I tested them during my training sessions and then wore them in a race and just loved them," said Reed, "They really stay in place in rough water and when I pop my head up to get my bearings I have a wide field of vision."
Reed liked the goggles so much he immediately signed on with the Lake Oswego, Oregon based company.
"We are very excited to have signed Matty," says Rick Runkle, owner of Barracuda. "The Hydrobat goggle was designed to accommodate the caliber of athlete Matty represents as well as a competitive swimmer at the club and high school level.
The Hydrobat goggles were designed for competitive swimming in a pool or in open water. Under each lens there are three small holes or flutes that direct water away from the lenses and create hydro-static pressure which better holds the goggles in place. This is vital during a dive, flip-turn or splashing through the waves.
Reed recently won the Chicago Triathlon wearing the Hydrobat goggles and is one of the first elite athletes in the world to get the pair of revolutionary goggles. Reed will wear the Hydrobat goggles in all his upcoming races.
Hydrobats are available in four different colors; Clear, Smoke, Silver Mirrored and Teal Mirrored. Hydrobat Clear and Smoke sell for $15, and Silver Mirrored and Teal Mirrored for $17.
Barracuda is a brand owned by Skyline Northwest Corporation. Established in 1979, the Lake Oswego-based company designs and manufactures precision sport optics, including Bugz Performance Eyewear, Barracuda Swim Products and Sight Shield Protective Eyewear. The company's web site can be viewed at www.skylinenw.com.
Matt "Boom Boom" Reed is one of the most decorated triathletes in competition today. A 2008 U.S. Olympian and defending national triathlete champion, Reed has been a dominant force in the triathlon world since 1994. Born in New Zealand, Reed now lives and trains in Boulder, Colorado.

REED WINS REV3 HALF-IRONMAN IN 3:59:28

Boulder, Colorado - USA Olympian Matty Reed showed again just why he may be one of the most versatile triathletes in the world, winning the brutally hard REV3 Half-Ironman in 3:59:28. Taking the lead immediately upon exiting the swim, Reed showcased his strong talent in all 3 sports.
“The course was crazy hard, like uphill, downhill, corner, up hill, repeat,” Reed said. “I knew it was going to be a strong man’s course and that is why I came. I am thrilled to break 4 hours on this course.”
Reed, who recently won the Pan American Championships in the drafting format of triathlon, is showing that he truly is one of the rare 3-sport (swimming, biking, running) triathletes.
Today, Reed took control of the race at the gun with Boulder’s Tim O’Donnell, and the two blasted the swim together. Once on the bike, Reed powered away from the field and entered T2 with a 2:26 lead. That was all Reed needed as at half way of the run the lead was still at 2:20. Reed then settled in, knowing the race was his by the smile on his face on the out and back section of the run. Reed then enjoyed the finish and rolled across the line in honor of “The Blazeman” (waronals.com), the charity he races for.
“I really love the half-ironman distance. I can show my strengths and really enjoy racing fast and hard,” Reed stated. "This distance, an athlete must be able to bike solid and on this course no one can hide. The hills made it an honest course."
Many were calling the REV3 one of the hardest races on the planet. Reed seemed to just stride along on the run, showing the triathlon world again that his short course speed and his powerful skills combine well at the half-ironman distance. Reed won the 70.3 Oceanside race earlier in the season.
The 2008 Olympian Reed has won all but one race he has entered in 2009 (a flat tyre ruined the streak) and enters a race-heavy part of his season.
“I have put in a good training block this past month and am looking forward to some World Cup racing later this month and then hitting some non-drafting short course races in July. It is fun for me to race across all three formats. My heart loves to race hard and I cant say enough about this race today…. It was hard!!!”
Reed recently raced the Boulder Bolder 10km citizen’s race where he finished a solid 12th, a good training day for the year around Boulder resident.
Up next: World Cup Championship Series Race - Washington D.C. And then World Cup Des Moines.

REED DOMINATES 70.3 OCEANSIDE

Oceanside, California - USA’s 2008 Olympian Matty Reed cranked it up this weekend racing his first half ironman distance race in over five years. Reed won,
setting the run course record in the process. This win also sent shockwaves through the triathlon world and now everyone knows Reed can win in both short
and long course triathlon.
“I am happy to be able to win today after a tough start. I feel that my talents were well shown today.” Reed said. Known for smart racing and strengths
across all three sports, Reed had a nasty swim, with a kick in the face and losing his goggles and cap in the
chilly 58 degree water.
“I got nailed at about 800 meters and then had an asthma attack. I have never had that much time lost in a swim in my whole career,” said Reed. “I just tried, after getting mad, to think that it is okay and just keep my head on straight and get back in the race at whatever it takes. It’s a four hour race and I got three hours to get it.”
Reed left T2 in a hurry in 3rd place and quickly took over the race. He then extended his lead throughout the 20km winning handily over many other top athletes.
“I am happy with my training and I am happy to be able to show my running form today.”

USAT’s MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR FOR 2008 ELITE ITU
Boulder, Colorado - Announced today, Matt Reed, USA, was named USAT's Male Athlete of the Year for 2008 Elite ITU. Reed fought long and hard last season to save the USA’s third Olympic spot and allow the USA, the country where triathlon originated, 3 men to start the 2008 Olympic Games. Reed also earned the highest finish ever for an American Male at a World Championship, with his 5th place finish at 2008 World Championships. "This is a huge honor and I am thrilled to receive this award. Last year was a year of super highs and low lows, and this award helps me swallow my sub-par performance at my first Olympic games and know that my week in, week out performances were appreciated," Reed said from his home in Boulder, Colorado. "I am very proud to race for the USA and very proud of the team that I have. We have an amazing system of support here and I am honored to be a part of USA Triathlon. This honor only motivates me more to get the stars and stripes to the top of the podium again."
